Loan Scheme

The Charity has always had a loan scheme but placements are only sought a short distance from Manaton so that home visits can be made regularly. Moorland ponies need to go to homes near Dartmoor as when taken to lower ground, with much richer grazing, they are in danger of developing laminitis.
Also, only horses and ponies without problems are allowed to go to a loan home. The Trustees feel they should be friendly, easy to catch, without any previous history of laminitis or sweet itch so that they are a joy to their new carers and not a nuisance and an expense. Animals with problems are the responsibility of the Sanctuary. Spaces are always available should any of the loan ponies need to be returned as they are the property of DHPS for life. A signed loan foorm is required for each animal.
