Rodney

Kingswood (pet name Rodney) is another of our Police horses - his 'Dad' was retiring so the Police decided to retire the horse as well.
Aged about 27, Rodney has completed over 18 years service and his rider came with him from Bristol to make sure the Sanctuary was a right and proper place for his beloved horse and to satisfy himself that Rodney would be loved and properly cared for. He shed a few tears when he left but was more than happy for him to stay at the Sanctuary.
On their last assignment at the Glastonbury Festival, they arrested 4 drug dealers. On their arrival at the Festival site, all the riders mounted their horses. Rodney suddenly had a vista of wide open spaces and, much to the amusement of the other Police riders and the assembled crowd, he took off with his rider at a flat gallop.
Update: Rodney had had a long working life with the Police and he was tired when he came to us. Fortunately, he some good and happy years with us before his health started to fail. We knew he was on borrowed time but did hope he would have another summer, but it was not to be and he died at the beguning of the summer (2006), We all miss him so much and no one could sulk like Rodney!
