Sadly, since Christmas (2006), we have lost little Viking . He was very old, probably in his 40's and his legs started to give trouble. Our Vet did all he could but it was sheer old age. Such a shame as, despite his small size, he kept all the ladies in order even if he did have to stand on a rock to impose his authority. He did like big women and Tara was his favourite but, as a miniature Shetland, he only comes up to her knees!
Sylvia and Terry Phillips started the Sanctuary which gained Charity status in 1980. They began the principle of maintaining a small and personal establishment, which allows for each animal to be cared for as an individual and given all the love and attention they deserve.
Since the beginning many children and adults including the disabled and the disadvantaged have gained great benefit from close contact with our animals and we still see this as an important part of what we do.

We have very sad news, last thursday on the 3rd of May we unfortuntaly lost our one and only wonderful donkey Miranda. She sadly suffered a heart attack and passed away, thankfully she wasn't alone as two of our helpers and our vet were with her when it happened and for this we are grateful that she had people she knew and loved with her as she passed.
