Donations

Why we need your help:
With anything up to 50 resident horses, ponies and a donkey it costs, at least £65,000 a year to maintain the Sanctuary. We currently have 3 main staff and a lot of very helpful volunteers. Good hay costs in the region of £18 for a round bale - Copperfield and each of the Police horses can easily eat a bale of hay a day. There is a Hay Fund that always needs topping up - £2000 was paid out for 400 bales in the autumn of 2009 to get us through the winter, but with all the heavy snow more hay was needed to keep our animals going. Of course equines don't just rely on hay during the winter they also need 2 to 3 buckets of food a day and again the cost of food is soaring due to suppliers tightening their belts.
How you might be able to help
A Donation of your choice :
A One off donation ~ helps us to continue caring for the Sanctuary's animals by meeting the sorts of costs shown above. Please make your cheque payable to 'Devon Horse and Pony Sanctuary, please remember to complete a Gift Aid Declaration and send it to: Devon Horse & Pony Sanctuary, Hillside Cottage, Manaton, Devon TQ13 9UY with a covering note. Please keep checking the website as an only payment facility will be available in the Spring of 2010.
A Regular donation ~ has an added benefit for DHAPS because it enables us to plan ahead for the care of our current residents and for those who will need our help in the future. Please contact us for a Direct Debit form and for more information.
Gift Aid ~ is enhanced by the Government at current Income Tax rates, at no cost to the giver, this is for employed tax payers only. Please click here for a Gift Aid form
Leaving a Legacy ~ If you would like to include a gift for the Sanctuary in your will and you would like to know more about this then we would be happy to answer any questions so please contact us.
Payroll Giving ~ Quite a few employers operate schemes which allow you to make a donation directly from your pay packet. For a basic rate taxpayer, a gift of £10 a month would actually cost you only £7.80, with the £2.20 that would have gone to the Inland Revenue going instead to the DHAPS. For higher rate taxpayers the same donation of £10 would cost just £6.
Gifts of Shares ~ Did you know that you can give stocks and shares as a donation and claim up to 40 per cent income-tax relief too? The donation is exempt from capital gains tax. When you give shares you can claim full tax relief on an amount equal to the market value of the shares on the day the donation is made and on the costs involved in making the donation, such as stockbroker's or solicitor's fees.
